Light Study – Narrow Lighting

Photo of Light Study - Narrow Lighting

My son volunteered to help me out and be a test subject for a few photos.

In this shot, I was trying to light the far side of his face with the key light. A fill light is not being used at this point. I’ll add one after I get comfortable with how the key light works at different positions.

The lighting is from the edge of a 60″ x 30″ soft box placed about 6 feet high and 2 feet away from him. The soft box was set at 1/4 power. The camera settings were ISO 100, 60mm, ƒ/8.0, 1/125.

While processing the photo, I added a “Hollywood Look” effect from Scott Kelby’s 7-Point System for Adobe Photoshop book.

  • hey, i love your blog theme.

When I found this photo Mike looked so much like Bobby I thought it was Bobby ! Bobby always photographed good too and still does. Now all Bobby has to do is train Mike to take pictures too so Bobby gets to be in more photos. Kensettgirl
